Bawk Dylan — every log line is a lyric, every outage a verse.

scryops is an independent observability engineering publication. No VC. No vendor relationships. Just one engineer thinking in public about the craft of making software legible.

There’s a gap most teams live in: the space between “we have good observability” and “we knew about the problem before users did.” The dashboards work. The alerts work. The model is broken — it’s reactive by design, and reactive means you always find out last.

This publication is for teams trying to close that gap. The move from forensics to foresight: the architecture decisions, instrumentation patterns, and hard-won lessons from teams actually doing it in production.

What you’ll find here

The name

Scry — to foretell the future by gazing into a reflective surface. Your telemetry data is that surface. Observability done right isn’t recording what happened — it’s reading what the signals are already telling you about what comes next.

scryops is the operational side of that vision.

Where to start. The founding piece lays out the shift from Observability 1.0 to Observability 2.0 — why the reactive model is broken, and what the alternative actually looks like in practice. Everything else on the site builds from that frame.
